Starr became a member of the VBH team in January 2021, as the community engagement and advocacy manager. She brings with her over six years of experience working for local and state level non-profits advocating for equity, healthy food access, food policy, LGBTQ youth, and LGBTQ people of color.
She served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as a nuclear security officer, with duty stations in Wyoming, Delaware, and a deployment to Kuwait in support of the War on Terrorism. She received the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal as well as the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. As part of a voluntary temporary duty, Starr also traveled the world as an expeditionary entertainer with a troupe of airmen, performing for troops and their families CONUS and overseas.
Starr is concluding the final stages of her PhD in Public Policy and Administration with a focus on health policy and holds a graduate degree in International Relations. When not advocating or conducting research, she enjoys interior design, traveling, and spending time with her five fur babies.
