Don graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Major in Business Administration and a Minor in Psychology. Don is an Army Veteran, 1969 & 1970 and spent 14 months in Vietnam & Cambodia (Artillery, 1st Infantry Division and 11th Armored Cavalry)

Retiring from business in 2008, he began a new career in the non-profit world. Don worked with Trellis Supportive Care for 9 plus years as their "Community Partnership & Veterans Support Coordinator".

Don has volunteered with several non-profit organizations: Special Olympics, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Arts for Life, Guiding Institute for Developmental Education (GIDE) and many Rotary Club of Clemmons projects and was a Board member for Big Brothers-Big Sisters, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and GIDE.

Married 49 years, (wife DJ) with two grown Sons and two young Grandsons.
