Board Member
Mr. Van Buren is a Managing Director and Development Officer Leader of CIB -Banking, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he has been a Wells Fargo team member for 25 years. Mr. Van Buren oversees the strategic initiatives and execution for all efforts related to the recruiting, staffing, coaching, training and development, and retention of Banking emerging talent.
From 2019 until 1Q 2023, he held the position of Development Officer for the M&A and Regional Investment Banking businesses, responsible for managing and developing the VPs, associates, and analysts across the two groups.
Previously, Mr. Van Buren spent 16 years on the trading floor as a director on the High Yield Sales &Trading team. Prior to joining the trading floor in August 2003, he spent 5+ years in the Banking Division as part of the Industrial coverage group.
Mr. Van Buren is a strong veterans advocate, and deeply involved in Wells Fargo's Veterans Employment Transition (VET) Program since inception.
From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Van Buren attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned an M.B.A. Prior to business school in 1996, he served six years in the U.S. Army as a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter pilot flying nation building, drug interdiction, air cavalry operations, and MEDEVAC missions in Central America,
Germany, and the Middle East. These experiences are shared in his published book Life Lessons from The Cockpit, available online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
Mr. Van Buren holds a B.A. degree from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, 1988, where he played intercollegiate football, earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors, and held five school records.
Outside of work, Mr. Van Buren is a public speaker and advisor. In the spring of 2020, he completed a personal challenge by posting 365 daily personal development videos on social media and his YouTube channel. Additionally, Mr. Van Buren joined the Board of Directors for the Veterans Bridge Home and Shippensburg University Foundation in the fall of 2023.
