March Veteran of the Month Abby Hyde

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 14, 2020) - Veterans Bridge Home is honored to recognize Abby Hyde as our March Veteran of the Month.

SPC Abby Hyde served for six years in the United States Army National Guard and is currently the Senior Manager of University Relations and Veterans Recruitment at XPO Logistics.

Abby is the type of person we love to recognize because each day, she goes above and beyond every day to provide better opportunities for fellow veterans. One example is her setting up a grassroots style effort at XPO Logistics to not only assist veterans in finding employment but also educating the talent acquisition team at XPO Logistics in why hiring a veteran is a great opportunity to tap into a diverse talent pool.

At XPO, she is developing a robust plan to attract, recruit, hire, onboard and train Veterans; a program she is building from scratch. She is often behind the scenes in her work to establish the right foundational pieces within her company. This will not only help XPO successfully hire Veterans, but also give Veterans the onboarding and transition success to their workplace culture. Her overall goal is for XPO to be a Veteran ready organization, not just Veteran friendly. In addition, Abby networks with other companies to share talent that XPO may not be able to hire but could benefit another company.

Another focus of hers is to bring more awareness to the value Veterans bring to the workforce as well as celebrating and honoring them for their service and sacrifice. She is working on shifting the culture by breaking down unconscious bias and stereotypes that most Veterans face. Her program is training recruiters on military culture 101, resumes, skills transfer, military jargon while also working on a more robust training program for hiring managers. Because of Abby, XPO Logistics is evaluating policies, job descriptions and application questions to make sure they are thinking of Veterans and their needs as well as including their military service as work experience. She is also helping to create a community within XPO for Veterans. They have their own virtual ERG where veterans connect to support each other, welcome new members, and razz each other over which branch is better. Because of her work, this community is gaining momentum as a collective group across the US. In February they even launched their Veteran employer profile on military.com: https://www.military.com/veteran-employers/xpo-logistics

We would like to thank Abby for her military service and her continual work for enriching the lives of veterans. Veterans Bridge Home is proud to have our Veteran of the Month go out to Abby, a veteran who holds our values that every veteran matters and deserves recognition.
